Miley to appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”

Posted by Lene | Jan 27 2012 | 0 comments
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” isn’t taking any chances during February sweeps. In order to win the ratings race, Ellen has landed what’s being dubbed the exclusive joint interviews with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony and Taylor Swift and Zac Efron. She will also sit down with First Lady Michelle Obama and celebs like Jennifer Aniston and has a host of musical talent heading to daytime.

DeGeneres will talk music with Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, but there will also be some rocking performances. Folks like Miley Cyrus will stop by throughout February to perform their tracks from the Bob Dylan cover album, “Chimes of Freedom,” a 4-CD collection that celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Amnesty International. It’s not clear who else from the album will make an appearance, but possibilities include Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Costello, Natasha Bedingfield, My Chemical Romance, Maroon 5 and many more.

Other big celebs scheduled include Denzel Washington, Rachel McAdams, Julie Bowen and Channing Tatum.

It bares mention that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony actually sat down together, already, and that appearance left those in attendance more than a little frustrated. The former couple was on-hand at the TCA press tour earlier this month to talk up their upcoming show, “Q’VIVA! The Chosen,” the same show they’ll be promoting on “Ellen.” In order to avoid the uncomfortable questions, however, they tried to avoid taking any questions at all. Hopefully, DeGeneres will fare better.

Miley' X-Rated Cake Photos Are Silly, Not Scandalous

Posted by Lene | Jan 27 2012 | 0 comments
Newsflash: Miley Cyrus is now 19 years old. She’s no longer starring on Disney TV shows or singing at Disney World as Hannah Montana. In the past year alone, she’s made it clear she likes to party, has a dirty mouth on occasion, and enjoys smoking a popular, albeit illegal substance. So it really should come as no surprise that the entertainer was photographed in a provocative pose with a huge penis cake presented to her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, for his birthdaylast weekend.

Yes, you read that right. Former Disney star + phallic dessert = SHOCKER! Oh, yeah, and she also was said to be “drinking alcohol and partying all night.” Hellooooo, Captain Obvious.

*looking at my watch* Yes, I think it’s about time to get over it. It’s become BLATANTLY obvious that Miley’s no squeaky-clean Taylor Swift, and thank goodness for that! (I’m tellin’ ya, some day that Taylor is going to have a serious Michael Jackson moment and wonder why she kept dressing like a 5-year-old in frilly dresses and having school-yard crushes well into her double digits.)

The fact is, whether you like it or not, if Miley was a normal 19-year-old, she would probably be doing these very same things or much worse at college. Everyone knows that age is prime time for extreme partying and throwing caution to the wind to take raunchy photos. How many now almost 30-year-olds still have Facebook photos — or if they’re smart, photos hidden on an old hard drive — of themselves a.) holding an entire bottle of vodka, b.) posing with some kind of X-rated gag gift, c.) posing inappropriately, or d.) all of the above?

Most of us have been there, done that. But because Miley used to be a kiddie star and is still famous, we think she needs to be held to a higher standard? Pffft, pleeeeease. At 19, the girl just wants to have fun. No big deal, although, some day — maybe when she has her own kids — she might wish she wasn’t quite so snap-happy, at least not around the penis cake …

Selena Gomez Dances In Airport to Miley Song

Posted by Lene | Jan 24 2012 | 0 comments
It doesn’t matter where Selena Gomez lands, she knows how to have a good time! The “Bang Bang Bang” singer was spotted by at the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport in Puerto Rico on Monday afternoon, dining with her entourage at Tropical D’lights Bar & Grill. Dressed casual and wearing big black sunglasses, Selena was seen bobbing her head and singing along to Miley Cyrus‘ “Party in the USA.”

One waiter at the restaurant gushed about how “sweet” and “beautiful” Selena was. She went pretty much unnoticed until she got up to get on her flight to Panama, where she’ll hit the stage tonight, Jan. 24.

So where was Selena’s guy Justin Bieber? He was there!

As SelGo kicked off her South American tour in Puerto Rico, her beau flew in to surprise her at the gig. After the concert, a Celebuzz insider saw the duo dining together at Pikayo, located inside the Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino. Although the two likely wanted a low-key night alone, the restaurant was buzzing with excitement the entire time they ate.

So is Justin, 17, joining her for the entire tour?

Miley is back on business

Posted by Lene | Jan 23 2012 | 0 comments

Oh yes! It’s not new music, but the uber-talented Miley Cyrus is back on business! Leaving aside my ineluctable frustration over the commercial flop of the underrated “Can’t Be Tamed” album, I’m happy to announce to all Miley fans out there, that if the MP3 leak of her Bob Dylan cover of the 1975 classic “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” whetted your appetite last December, here’s now the ‘official’ music video for your viewing pleasure. Check it out!!

Miley’s cover is part of the Bob Dylan compilation ‘Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International’, a four-disc collection which honors Amnesty International’s 50th anniversary and pays tribute to Bob Dylan’s career at the same time. The album contains 76 newly recorded cover versions of songs by Dylan, contributed by more than 80 artists. BTW, I think Miley did justice to ‘You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go’. She made the song her own. It sounds like a country tune, it’s nice and mellow, and evidently this type of music suits Miley’s voice amazingly. As for the recently-premiered MV, it’s all about the song’s sentiment. In it you’ll see Miley performing the Bob Dylan song at an empty house with the help of guitarist Johnzo West.

Miley does Dylan…

Posted by Lene | Jan 23 2012 | 0 comments
…and she does it well.

Check out the ex-Hannah Montana’s “You’re Going to Make Me Lonesome When You Go” video below.

I’m working on a long review of the amazing “Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring Years of Amnesty International” for tomorrow — the four disc, 75-track set features Dylan covers from Adele, Johnny Cash, Joe Perry, My Morning Jacket, Elvis Costello, Ziggy Marley, Sugarland, Pete Townshend and loads more more. Almost every track is a cool spin on a classic Dylan track (even Ke$ha’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” is shockingly good).

Those who don’t like the idea pop stars doing the rock-era’s greatest songwriter’s tunes can stuff it, says Dylan.

“My assignment (from the Dylan camp) was not to be a snob; it was to be creative and to let everybody do it who wants to do it,” said producer Jeff Ayeroff, who also put together Amnesty’s John Lennon tribute album. “There is no judgment here. We wanted to hear what people could deliver.”

Still…. I’d recommend listening, but not watching the video. The sight of Miley’s painted face singing “You’re Going to Make Me Lonesome When You Go” is just to weird — even if the tune the best country ballad of this young decade.

Miley Covers Bob Dylan

Posted by Lene | Jan 23 2012 | 0 comments
Miley Cyrus covered Bob Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go,” and, people, do not laugh as I am completely serious when I muster all of my renown and critical authority (and put my rock-solid reputation as a SERIOUS MUSIC WRITER on the line here) to declare that Miley’s cover should absolutely be taken seriously.

Miley’s cover is part of the Bob Dylan compilation Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International, a four-disc collection that honors Amnesty International’s 50th anniversary and pays tribute to Bob Dylan, featuring artists like Ke$ha (who covered “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright”), Adele, Pete Townshend, The Airborne Toxic Event and more. (See, we knew Miley was a role model.)

The accompanying video, which was released today and features guitarist Johnzo West, is a muted, pensive affair that focuses far more on the song’s sentiment than on Miley the headline-maker. It’s the polar opposite of flashy Miley affairs like “Can’t Be Tamed” or “Party In The USA.” (If anything proves that Miley’s growing up as a woman and as an artist, covering Dylan — and doing it quite well — is it.)

Old-school Bob Dylan fans are probably too busy completing the entire 33⅓ series on their first-gen Kindles or contemplating organic milk to read this, so I probably only have you, Miley fans, to convince that Miley’s Dylan cover is worth several listens, and I probably don’t have to. Miley covers “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” with all of the mournfulness and dusty sentiment that the classic Dylan song requires, pouring her heart into the track and giving the legend his due instead of simply covering the track and moving on. (It’s hard to top the Shawn Colvin version, but Miley comes dangerously close.)

It takes not only guts but cojones the size of wrecking balls to cover Bob Dylan, and Miley rose to the occasion and not only proved that she’s capable of genres beyond pop but that she thrives vocally in a folk/ country environment. I’m now waiting impatiently for that country album, Milers.

Megan Park dishes on working with Miley

Posted by Lene | Jan 23 2012 | 0 comments
On her upcoming project:

“I do [have a future film coming with Miley Cyrus] called So Undercover. That was probably the most fun four months of my entire life. We had too much fun. I look back I’m like, did we make a movie? Oh, yeah. I forgot because we just had so much fun the whole time. It was great. We were in such a magical city and to be there for that long and working with Miley and Kelly Osborne and Eloise Mumford. It was basically just all girls all the time. There was an actor Josh Bowman who is in it but he only came at the end so basically it was just a bunch of girls by ourselves the whole time. We all were staying together and we went to sorority boot camp because we’re in a sorority but the real sorority up in Baton Rouge, and we had so much fun. It did not seem like work, and by the time it was all over I couldn’t believe that we made a movie because we had so much fun. But we did so hopefully, people like the movie too.”
